We were all turned off by the modern cover band scene, where every band felt that they could only play the "safe" songs. Going to see a cover band today is like going to a karaoke show. It's all the same music, but with a different singer. Remember the days when radio DJs used to play the songs that THEY wanted to play? Those were the good old days! Unfortunately, those days are long gone. We want to be the cover band equivalent of those days. You're still gonna know most of the songs we play, but you might also hear some songs you haven't heard before. You may find this surprising, but many bands have kick ass songs that were never shoved down your throats by radio, tv, etc...
At first we thought this would be an easy task. Boy, were we wrong! 90% of the guys who wanted to audition were good musicians but NONE wanted to take the time to learn different songs (and the funny/sad part was that they all knew the same songs!) Most were only interested in knowing when we were playing and how much we were paying. They got disqualified immediately. We were looking for guys who felt that the FUN of playing was more important than the instant pay day.
Fortunately, we stuck to our guns. It took a few years to find the right group of guys, but we found 'em! Guys who could play, had a passion for the music, shared the same agenda and had a great sense of humor.
Mission accomplished.
